    Our home base will be the elegant Lord Beaverbrook Crowne Plaza Fredericton Hotel (www.cpfredericton.com) in the heart of downtown Fredericton.

    PWAC hotel rate is just $129 + tax, single or double.

    What challenges/issues face freelance writers today and how do writers overcome/address them?

    Option A

    Business Essentials for a Freelance Writing Business – presenter donalee Moulton

    You’re selling your services and your expertise, but are you selling yourself or your business. This session will explore key issues freelancers and consultants must determine about their business. For example, should you incorporate your company? If so, will you be an employee? Do you need to carry general liability insurance? Errors and omissions insurance? Do you have a company car or a car that is sometimes used for business? How will you market your services? There is no right or wrong, but you need to determine the work model that works best for you. This session will also cover taxes, health care coverage and getting help from others such as virtual assistants.

    Option B

    Taking Care of Yourself: As important as taking care of the work – presenter Christine Peets

    In the all-too-“crazy-busy” world of freelance writing, it’s easy to get caught up in the work to the point of neglecting our own well-being. We skip meals; sit too long at our desks; and get stressed when the workload becomes overwhelming. In this session, we’ll discuss some time management strategies, look at the ergonomics of our work stations, and simple, yet effective ways of taking care of ourselves while we take care of the work.

    Breaking into high-fee content writing – presenter Steve Slaunwhite

    All writers want to work on projects that are both interesting and well-paying. The world of content marketing offers that and much more. In fact, companies are eager (almost to the point of desperation) to find skilled and experienced writers to craft their blog posts, articles, social media updates, white papers, ebooks and more.

    Content marketing is growing by 30% a year, making it possibly the fastest-growing writers’ market. In this fast paced session, Steve Slaunwhite will explain how to transition successfully into content writing, build a base of great clients and consistently make top dollar for your work.

    Option A

    Marketing for Writers: A workshop for writers seeking readers – presenter Terry Armstrong

    In this workshop, Terry Armstrong will do his best to share everything he’s learned in 20-plus years of freelance work and writing. Branding, setting sales targets, business planning, target-marketing and, of course, the ins and outs of social media – all of the essentials will be covered. Terry will also show attendees the resources he uses (Amazon, Facebook and Wordpress) and explain why he uses them nearly exclusively in his own marketing endeavours.

    This isn't just about selling more books, but rather, learning to build our brand and sell ourselves as writers. 


    Option B

    Grammar Boot Camp – presenter Kathe Lieber

    You know this stuff….right? Grammar is the underpinning of everything we do as writers, but most of us never studied English grammar and we can be pretty hazy about the rules. While native speakers’ instincts are generally solid, it helps to know why we write what we write. This workshop will cover tone and level, casual and formal language, clarity and comprehension, providing many memorable (and amusing) examples. Come prepared to learn and laugh. You’ll go home with some answers, some new questions and Kathe’s coveted reference list.

    Panel: The Current State and Future of Publishing

    Topics for discussion: What is the current state of the publishing industry; traditional vs self-publishing companies – pros and cons; red flags to watch out for. (Panelists are being confirmed.)
