Welcome to the Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC) Website!
PWAC is The best place for non-fiction writers to be!
Do you work in multiple areas of non-fiction? Does your work appear in different media, including print, online and visual/broadcast? Perhaps you should consider membership in PWAC. To learn more about our members and see if you would fit in, look at our Find A Writer section, where members can connect and clients can find the right writer for their projects. [Members, make sure your Profile is up to date!]
Our Members’ Only section shows how we work together as a community: there are always new discussions in our Professional Forums and new jobs in our Job Bank, and you can view archives of our monthly e-magazine, The Poke, as well as Digests of our Board meetings for more information on our many activities.
If you’re looking for a true community to support you in your writing, then you should become a PWAC member. NOW is the best time to Join Us.
Membership in PWAC is an investment in your non-fiction writing career that will pay great dividends year after year.
We're well into planning for our 2018 Conference, being hosted with the Canadian Media Guild Freelance Branch this September in Toronto. Follow the latest developments for great professional development opportunities on our Conference page. Members receive a discounted rate for the conference, among many other benefits. Our strongest asset is the knowledge shared by our members who live in all parts of Canada from coast to coast to coast, and there’s nowhere better to experience this than the Conference. We hope to see you there!
One of PWAC’s important activities is ongoing advocacy for non-fiction writers, and we make sure our voice is heard. Most recently, our president Christine Peets appeared before the House Committee on Industry, Science and Technology (INDU), which is reviewing the Copyright Act, to discuss the importance of copyright to PWAC members. You can download a copy of her presentation here.
Do take some time to see what’s here; we’re sure you’ll find it a rewarding experience. Please contact us if you have any questions.
We serve Canadian non-fiction freelance writers across the country. As a not-for-profit, we reflect your broader professional interests and advocate for Canadian writers to receive fair pay, contracts and treatment. Our goals are to:
